The history of bistec…

There is nothing new under the sun, according to the old adage. However, Bistec Bar and Grill seeks to provide the most unique, fun and delicious experience it can to its customers.

20 Years in the Making…

Bistec Bar and Grill is the result of many years of hard work, experience and Chicago spirit. In 1990, Monique Mark worked with her mother, Hoa Dong, at Work of Art Bakery and Café, where they produced delectable bakery items for which they won many awards. In 2011, Monique and her mother took their skills and opened what would become a local favorite in the Lincoln Park area—the Kingsbury Street Café. For seven years, they worked hard to build their business, serving breakfast, lunch, brunch and many of their award-winning products from Work of Art Bakery and Café.

A Change Over Time but not in Heart

In 2018, Hoa Dong retired and Monique decided to power forward with their business. She wanted it to keep its roots as a local favorite but to also see it grow in a new direction. She and a group of investors took over the business and reopened the Kingsbury Street Café as Bistec Bar and Grill.

Bistec Bar and Grill now provides many of the lunch and brunch items that had been so popular from Kingsbury Street Café but with a Latin spin. Additionally, Monique introduced a new concept to the dining experience—an interactive Mexican dining experience, with tableside grills that allow customers to grill their own meats.
